Proofreading entails checking final copy against a manuscript, looking for
typographical errors, and querying blatant errors and inconsistencies.

Copy Editing

Copy editing entails reviewing finished manuscripts for spelling, grammar,
consistency, and conformity to style, eliminating wordiness, and checking
completeness, accuracy, and format on tables, bibliographies, and footnotes.

Editing/Rewriting

Editing/rewriting entails copy editing plus rewriting, reorganizing, writing
transitions and summaries, reviewing content for accuracy and logic, and
ensuring the proper tone or approach for the intended audience.

Writing

Writing entails starting from scratch with no manuscript or with only notes or
an outline from which to work. Writing also includes research, interviews,
planning, outline and draft preparation, summaries, meetings, consultations,
and revisions.

Typesetting

The process of putting text into the right style and size of type and the desired
arrangement on the page in preparation for printing. In other words, you receive
a PDF document in which the text appears exactly as it will look when printed.
